Russia shelling Donetsk again and trying to blame Ukraine

The first steps of Russia's new offensive in Ukraine have begun again this weekend. Donetsk residential area has been shelled so they can convince the people there and the public in Russia that Russia's war against Ukraine is justified.

This video shows the aftermath of some of the shelling in Kyiv district:

This map shows most of the impacts shown in the video:

The OSCE look at an impact location that came from the North and COULD have come from Ukrainian side, as well as Russian:

But the other two impacts with the yellows lines indicate the shelling came from North-East direction, which is Russian occupied territory.

Impact 1
There is another video of this impact that is more revealing:

This screenshot will help us to roughly determine the direction of impact:

The rule of thumb here is: direction of impact is perpendicular to the plane through the line on the wall and the impact crater:

(For an extensive explanation and example on this method, see this Volnovakha blog.)

This direction projected on the map looks like this:

The shells came from anywhere in between the direction of the yellow cone.
On a larger scale it looks like this:

Orange line = current frontline according to MilitaryCraps
Read area = 8 km range from which shelling must have come

This screenshot shows that there was an impact tight on the stairs leading to school 58:

This video shows the left (southern) side of the school is still intact:

This streetview from Yandex shows the intact stairs:

It means the whole plateau in front of the door has been blown away by a direct hit.

On the map it can be seen that the direction of impact must have come from the Eastern side, anywhere from almost North to almost South:

On a larger scale it can be seen that this is consistent with the NNe direction of the other impact:

Also it is clear that such an impact never could have come from Western Ukrainian side.

Conclusion
Russia and its propaganda media are playing foul game again. They are deliberately heating up the tension by shelling Donetsk again, like they have done so many times before, and blaming Ukraine for it.

The bad news is that such actions are a prelude to the larger offensives that are coming soon.

Also see: another earlier example of how Russia tries to blame Ukraine for shelling Donetsk.

Here is a Ukrainian language debunking blog about this shelling.

Kenneth Roth from HRW falls for Russian propaganda

This tweet:

from the big boss at HRW:

Links to this article on Newsweek:

It quotes HRW like this:

But this article by Julia Davis shows that Newsweek had fallen prey to Russian Propaganda:

This shows that HRW is not even cross-checking it's sources before making such huge allegations:

Since Kenneth Roth publicly accuses Ukraine, he also needs to publicly correct and apologize for this mistake.

UPDATE 9-2
Kenneth finally deleted his tweet. BUT THIS IS NOT ENOUGH!! When it gets retweeted 328 times you send a message out to the world. If then after 2 days you delete the tweet, the message has STILL COME ACROSS. I can delete ALL my tweets after two days and I am still communicating.

Kenneth needs to send a CORRECTION and an APOLOGY, because right now his followers are STILL MISINFORMED!!

We are waiting...

Russians destroy civilian buildings in Vuhlehirsk just for Russian tv

In this video you can see a Russian tank in Vuhlehirsk shooting at a 9 level-residential building. A Russian 'reporter' tells some story about Right Sector bla bla and snipers or so.

They had already been shooting it:

They shoot it again:

No fighting is going on. Nobody fires back.

They shoot at the side of the building:

The reporter ducks, but there is nothing going on and he is the only one:

This is were they are:

Red arrow = route they take to approach the building

Zoomed in:

Red arrow = where they shot a hole in the side of the building

On a larger scale:

Orange = recent front line and Minsk demarcation line
Dotted orange line = conquered city of Vuhlehirsk by Russians
Red arrow = their position

As can be seen they are in safe area, surrounded by the quarters of Vuhlehirsk. They drive AWAY from the frontline, NOT TOWARDS the frontline.

Furthermore, NO fighting or firing is going on. The reporter ducks his head all the time, but that is just for show.
When they enter the building NO Ukrainian soldiers were found hiding out there.

Conclusion
The Russians shoot with a tank on Ukrainian apartment buildings while there is NO military threat, just for fun and to make some good Russian tv.
Such kind of senseless destruction against civilians property is a war crime. It is very well possible that civilians may have got killed or wounded because of this.

FURTHERMORE... check this:

In this video the Russian are filming civilians fleeing from Vuhlehirsk and they are HELPING THEM:

But @Conflict_report noticed something VERY INTERESTING:
The people are waiting in line to go into the direction THEY CAME FROM!!!

Furthermore... there are not very many people!!
This screenshot had the most people at the same time:

I counted 37 dots (dog included)!

31 people and there is only ONE yellow bus.

26 people in the shot from the other side.

So lets take a really big margin and say there were 150 people.

Now look at this video!

This is a KILOMETERS long row of waiting cars on the road from Donetsk to to Kurakhovo on January 20th.

That road is here:

THAT's how many civilians are fleeing from the horrors that Russia brings over their land!

So what about these 150?
When you don't have gas or electricity or water or bread to eat and you can get a couple of rubles and a bus ticket out of the war zone... some people do this. They don't care about what's will be done with the footage. They only try to survive.

For Russia East-Ukraine is just a deadly reality show that they write, direct and film themselves...

Military Studies @ArmedResearch turns out to be a Russian Propaganda Troll

I had an eye on him for some time, but he stayed under the radar until today.

With the attack on the Ukrainian checkpoint near Volnovakha where 12 civilians died:
The trolls immediately started to remove their bragging about the attack and spinning stories about how 'Ukraine did it'.
In this case a Ukrainian claymore attached to a tree would have done the job...

I made some screenshots and photoshopped some clarifying text to it to show the nonsense of such an idea:
And especially at such moments trolls may come out of their holes...

He is trying to lobby for the Russian Propaganda twist of it!!!

Military Studies... Sounds pro!

Military Historian. Currently watching Ukraine... 7774 followers. Gee!
Impressive (looking) guy.

I responded to him and saved his answers meanwhile, so he could not delete them like some of his friends do.
And also:
His responses:

He tries to stay under his cover... But by NOT condemning the brutal killings of civilians by the Russian MLRS attack, he justifies it and shows who he is:

"all your propagandist Ukrainian friends"... Speaks for itself who HIS friends are.. His "Let's do this" means he understands he can not keep his cover anymore and he comes out.

Meanwhile another troll comes to help:

And here we go:

Oh wow, that was clarifying :D.

Experts scolding on internet...

And ANOTHER troll comes in telling lies:

Well, that was funny actually :D.

Ok enough for now. @ArmedResearch (Twitter ID 2779009591) exposed...

Oh wait! This one came in late... @ArmedResearch informs us about his brotherly account(s) too:

UPDATE@rConflict responded to this as follows:
So we had a discussion where I asked him to clarify himself, but he answered 'they' wanted to be neutral:

Was Ukrainian BUK 312 stolen by Russian (proxy) terrorists?

Desperate Russians try every single remote option to avoid the inevitable: that they have to admit that they shot down MH17 with their own BUK.

So the latest fashion is to claim that it was Ukrainian BUK 312 that shot MH17 down. This implies it must have been stolen, because the launch location is known and that area was and still is in Russian control.

But the one that shot down MH17 does not match UA BUK 312:
No do the numbers of the MH17 BUK, the Russian BUK that bellingcat found and Ukrainian BUKs match in any way:

This should be sufficient actually, but nevertheless, I will address the other issues here as well.

First there is this photo of UA BUK 312 on a white trailer, that resembles the white truck that transported the Russian BUK:

These photos are from an incident in March 2014 as is reported (for instance) on this VK-site.

The truck may APPEAR similar, but it definitely is NOT the same truck.
These photos are therefore UNRELATED to the MH17 incident.

More photos of that incident:

Kramatorsk Airfield
A couple of days ago this photo of UA BUK 312 was discovered on the Russian owned social network VK:

Due to the publicity it got, it has already been removed (by the Russian FSB of course)! This fact alone proofs that Russia is guilty and actively trying to hide or blur it's own involvement.
Yet, even though the photo has been removed from the album, it is still on the VK-servers. And a direct link to it still reveals it.

This is a screenshot of the photo in the album (note the date):

The upload date is August 17th. Which means the photo must have been taken on or before that date.

This is another similar photo from the same location showing a BUK radar (the other one is a TELAR), which has also been removed:

Link to original.

As can be seen it is from the same date:

It is shot from almost the same position with the camera turned to the left.

The Ukrainian soldier who posted these photos has an album with a lot of photos showing his involvement in the army. He has visited several locations in the conflict area, as indicated by some geotagged photos.
There is a whole bunch of Aug. 17th photos. It looks like he took the photos earlier on several locations and he uploaded them on that date when he had time and a (good) internet connection.
Thus, likely the BUK photo has been taken earlier than the upload date.

On this blog it is suggested that both BUK photos may have been taken on Kramatorsk airport.
When we investigate this suggestion, we can confirm beyond any reasonable doubt that this is the correct location.
This is the camera position and the field of view:

Amazing is that on the August 20th satellite image the BUK is at exactly the position as in the photo!
These are all the matching elements (besides the BUK):

The only thing that does not match are the helicopters. But comparing several dates of satellite images show that the helicopters have different positions every date. It means that they are being used and go and come back to their positions.

Thus the photos have been taken when the helicopters where away on flights.

Eliot Higgins pointed out that the air control tower is visible in the photo with the radar:
Here you can see it:

This Panoramio photo shows the control tower and antenna next to it:

More proof that the location is absolutely correct.

On this July 26th image the BUK can be seen in a slightly different position:

This image is of a better quality than the later one. Clearly the four white tips of the missiles can be distinguished (in line with the orange lines). Proof that this indeed is a BUK.

Eliot pointed at another photo, shot at the same location in opposite direction:

On the background at the right side the BUK is visible. This links the helicopters visible on Google Earth with the BUK.

On this August 4th satellite image both the BUK radar and the BUK TELAR can be seen in exactly those positions as on the photos:

That means the photos must have been taken on or around this date.

Since the July 26th image show the BUKs in different positions, the photos must have been taken anywhere from that date. And since the photo was uploaded on August 17th, it therefore must have been taken between July 27th and August 17th.

Conclusion
UA BUK 312 has been spotted on Kramatorsk airfield beginning of August. It can already be seen there since July 23rd. That shows it was ALL THE TIME in Ukrainian possession and control.
So all suggestions from the Russians that this Ukrainian BUK may have shot down MH17 are just absolete.
They will have to come up with something new again. (Or just admit the truth of course...)

Or maybe we just ignore their nonsense anyhow, because it does not even deserve our attention?
