Kramatorsk attacked with Smerch BM-30 300mm rockets

Kramatorsk has been attacked:

This map shows that #Kramatorsk is WELL WITHIN range of Smerch missiles (max 90 kms).


Earlier Uragan MLRS launchers had been spotted in Khartsyzsk. See this blog.




Determining directions

It's at an angle of some 45 degrees relative to the wall of the house.
On the map:


The angle and direction at which this rocket is pointing is not reliable, because it likely hit (branches of) the tree first.



This tweep says SE:

Unfortunately there is no way to check this at the moment, so it's unconfirmed.

The problem with this one is also that it is in the middle of five trees, so direction is not very reliable, because it may have hit something first.

The yellow line is the direction coming from Khartsyzsk, what was reported to be the launch location.

Three ? and the two without ? point in different directions...!
I may have a made errors somewhere of course. Please let me know if you see one.

But it seems to me that after delivering their payload, Smerch-rockets maybe twist downwards and may hit the ground it different angles. This may be due to the fact that body and engine disconnect and the front of the engine catching wind, so it may start to twirl.

If that is true, it means that ANY direction determined on a single impact is highly unreliable in the case of Smerch-rockets.

But even so, it does not need to be unclear that the RUSSIANS shot at the Ukrainian military airfield and meanwhile hit civilians targets too.

That definitely makes this one point in the SE direction too.


Tweep @novostidnua provides another way of determining direction. Somehow he got hold on or made a map of all impacts:


RED marker = dead/wounded
BLUE = damaged bldg
GREEN = unexploded shell
The oval shape of impacts determines where they came from:


The yellow line is the middle line and it is approximately the same as the yellow line coming from Khartsyzsk.

It looks like the airfield had been attacked SEPARATELY, which is consistent with the reports of ANOTHER attack after the first one:

Lifenews reporters detained. Just or unjust?

On May 18th some fighting has been going on in Kramatorsk as reported here. Three people were detained among which there were two journalists from LifeNews.



As can be seen in the video they were caught with a Manpad. This is a portable air-defense system against helicopters and slow aircrafts.

It is well-known by now that Russian Media are in general very quick to report about a situation from the location where it happens. It is suspected that they know in advance what is going to happen.

The deadly shootout from supposedly Right Sector thugs near Slovyansk is a proven setup and staged crime with the goal to influence the public opinion in Slovyansk against the Ukrainian Army. I reported about this here.

Now this LifeNews team has been caught with a Manpad. To do what? To get 'exclusive footage' of course. It is an example of how the 'Russian journalists' work together with the rebels.
The fact that they have press ID-cards does not give them immunity when they are involved in criminal activities.

This totally differs from taking journalists hostage like the rebels do. These journalists are not involved in criminal activities. They are not caught red-handed. They do not stage incidents nor fabricate misleading reports upfront. And when they do... they should be detained too!

Geolocations of fighting in Kramatorsk on 18-5-2014

I determined the geolocation in the video of the fighting in Kramatorsk today. It is on the main road through Kramatorsk.

One more thing that happened in Kramatorsk. Some Russian journalists were captured:

They carried a Manpad and were probably trying to get some 'exclusive footage'. As can be seen in this video.



Now the BIG QUESTION is whether all blockposts were cleared, or only the ones that were shelled:

Geolocation of ambush on transport near Kramatorsk

The geolocation of the ambush on a Ukranian transport on the 13th of may has (almost) been established.

http://www.interpretermag.com/ukraine-liveblog-day-85-the-siege-of-slavyansk-continues/#2761 speaks of a bridge near the village of Dmitrovka and 'the outskirts of Oktyabrskoye'.

In a video in http://www.rferl.org/media/video/25384432.html a resident talks about a dam.

There are two bridges and dams in this area. The second one being the more probable location.

That road leads more directly to a known base of the Ukranian army.
